nanowrimo: the end

Phew, November is over and suddenly we are one month away from 2018. Which means it’s also almost Christmas time so cue the jazzy Christmas music, pine-scented candles, and hot chocolate! Christmas music may be playing in the background as I write this post too…

(I have a whole playlist of songs if you’re having trouble finding some new Christmas music!)

Writing R+B this past month couldn’t have come at a better time since the book is sort of, kind of a Christmasy book? Ignore the lovely grammar in that last sentence, but thinking about it:

R+B takes place where it snows. The characters are surrounded by towering pine/essentially Christmas trees. The lumberjacks basically live in plaid and flannels and everything warm. Boaz’s mother always leaves a record player playing jazzy, merry tunes. Ruth loves a hot cup of tea.

White snow + flannel + steaming tea + the scent of pine and sap + jazzy music? Sounds like Christmas to me!

*makes a mental note to accentuate Christmas in draft 2*

In short, November was a huge success. I wrote a little over 50K (the total below is ALL of R+B, not just NaNo writing) and I can’t wait to finish it up and send the rest off to my superb alphas.

I feel the draft is going fairly well for, well, a first draft. It’s messy and there are dozens of notes scattered throughout the chapters, but it’s going. As I got to the last couple of chapters, my characters decided to take a spontaneous train ride so I now have to go back and write a bit on that, but otherwise – it is ALMOST done.

It probably will be around 70-75K for this draft. I’m hoping to get it a little longer by the end so it’s not a super quick read, as long as it’s not a drag either. We’ll see.

After going through alpha comments, I’ll probably let R+B sit for a few weeks (since I’m being stubborn and not doing that now) before starting on the next round of edits. Then a couple more rounds and a couple more…hehe.

I have a few posts planned for this month, but it’s been a little slow with NaNo and school finishing up next week. Yay for finals. BUT congratulations to any writers who reached their goal, whether it was 50K or a personal goal, this month! And to those who didn’t quite make it, you still wrote something so be super duper proud of that and enjoy a mug of hot chocolate + whipped cream. You all deserve it!

How did NaNo go for YOU? Any Christmas plans?

YES very soon, I promise 😀 I just have to make sure I don’t have to go back and add anything important, and then I’m sending you girlies a LOT of chapters!

Yay for winning NaNo! I love that you incorporated Christmas and winter-y themes into your novel. That is something I’m trying to work into my work in progress as well. 🙂 I can’t believe Christmas is coming so soon! Hope you’re having a wonderful December!
